I would be happy to participate in the joining. Hopefully we can get a few people together. I'll offer up my place to host a joining party, but keep in mind it's in Boynton Beach, and we might have more participation if it's more centrally located.
As far as colors, I think pinks, purples, whites, and creams.
Are people going to be assigned a square? I'm happy to do one and get it up there, but getting the yarn (unless I mail order it or have someone send it down to me) may be tricky. Let me know how I can participate!
Quick additional comment: I found the yarn for sale online here: http://www.yarncountry.com/Berroco-Comfort-DK-Pretty-Pink--2705-p5265.aspx?AFID=AFD3
I would like to commit to making 1 square 12x12 and get the yarn ordered ASAP so that I can complete it next week. Is that OK with everyone? If so, I'll do that right away so there's no delay.
The only issue I can see with that is, the link you posted goes to Comfort DK, which is different than Comfort. Make sure you're ordering the right weight, so it'll match with the rest of the squares.
Has anyone been to the Stitcher's Haven (or somewhere else local) to see what's in stock? It's sort of a haul for me, so I'm thinking of ordering online, unless I know for sure that somewhere local has what I want. I'd like to use either Ballet Pink, Nosegay Mix, or Berry Mix.
Really? Two skeins? I was thinking one would do it, but I don't really know for sure.
I'm planning to go to Stitcher's Haven tomorrow, but didn't Ronnie or someone say they didn't have too much in the way of pinks an purples?
I'm also perfectly willing to drive to Tropical Yarns, if necessary. Yes, visiting two yarn stores in one day. It's a horrible fate, but I'm willing to take one for the team!
I think 1 ball will be plenty for one square, since 3 makes a clappy. Count me in for a Comfort search tomorrow, I'm off work! What time should we meet at ASH? We can then go to TY, and maybe eat!
Thanks Torii, but I'm actually going to head over to ASH this afternoon. I have a job interview, so I'm leaving work early anyway, and it's not too far out of the way. I would also like to get started on it this weekend -- my mental to-knit list is out of control. But if I don't find anything there, I'll get back to you and maybe take you up on getting me something at TY.
As for size, I'm thinking something smallish and lap-blankety that she can take to treatments, etc. But if we get more squares, it will just be bigger!
I'm probably going to buy 2 skeins, just to be safe, and if it only takes 1, I'll make 2 squares.
Torii -- No need to shop for me. I got a skein of Berry Mix at ASH today, but it was the last one. They had several pinks and purples in stock. They didn't have the pink variegated, if anyone was hoping for that.
Cheryl -- My ballband says 20 stitches per 4 inches on size 8; 18 stitches per 4 inches on size 9. So, between 54 and 60 stitches for 12 inches.
627, that sounds about right, when we made Beth's blanket, which was also 12X12, it varied depending on gauge but that was about the rough target number of stitches.
I have something niggling in the back of my mind. Were we okay with the size of the squared for Beth's blanket, or were they too big? I seem to remember saying if we did it again, we'd go smaller. Am I nuts?
I found a pattern I'm excited about for my square, but it's going to require several colors of yarn!
I was tslking to Whitney and she and I are trying to figur out a way to meet up on tuesday so I can give her the basket. Like a relay race, only better.
Tori, thanks but I already went ahead and ordered it online. I figured for the cost of shipping it came about about equal and I'll have it early next week and be able to get my square done by the end of the week. I will probably mail it up to one of you, as I won't be up to see the betties for a few weeks due to work covering for vacations.

Does anyone have a skein in their stash that I can buy? I can give you the money on Monday.
:)
I don't have the right colors myself! Road trip this weekend?
sure!
Do we have a goal date?
Who's going to do the joining?

Oh, and a goal date. Does anyone know when she starts treatment? I think we definitely want her to have it before then.
Maybe we can have the squares due by the 16th, and have the joining done by the 23rd? Too soon?

Ooh, I want to use Pimpernel! From what I can see on that site, it looks pinky-purply.

Thanks Debbie- I'll make sure to order the right stuff! Any thoughts on how many skeins to get? I was thinking 2 for a 12x12 square.

meh. I thought one skein would be enough too. In fact, I was trying to figure out how many squares we would need in total?
12 would probably be too few, but is 15 good enough? that would be
36'X60'
'Pends what our goal is, I guess. Are we aiming for a smallish thing she can take with her to treatments, or do we want a "real" full sized blanket?

Suzette, if you don't want to order online, I'd be more than happy to pick up a skein for you and send it.
Miss627 - I'd also be happy to shop for you if you like.

for a 12" square is there a general guideline for how many stitches?

I think Katie has the pink variegated!

Also, I have a 50% off coupon for Michael's next week, so if we still need a basket, maybe I can find something there on Sunday or Monday.
But Deb said she wasn't coming on Monday, anyway, so where does that leave us?

Well, phooey. I drew up my chart last night, and Fair Isle won't work so well. I'm going to have to do . . . wait for it . . . INTARSIA. Augh!
I got my yarn today- OMG so SOFT and lovely!! I hope to get my square finished this week and sent up!
