The Hand Off

Well, the last step is to give the blanket to Debbie. How shall we do this? I think that a non-Bean hand off would be best, something very low key. I'll get a card together for Monday night, and we can all sign it.

Sew?

Aside from Renee, is there anyone else who is good at seaming and who wants to take a couple strips to sew together? All the horizontal strips are complete - there are 6 strips, so I only really need one (or two, if you're tired of seaming, Renee) volunteers. The sooner the blanket is together, the sooner Ronnie can get it and do her magique!

PLOTTING!

I'd like to start throwing around ideas for giving the blanket to Debibo. Any suggestions?
We need to make sure she can make it and that as many of us as possible are there. My feeling about the event is that is should be low-key. What does everyone else think?

Work in Progress

Here's the layout Torii put together last night:

(If you need to be Flickr friended to click through to the additional views available there, just let me know. )

Just in case anyone's wondering, I think we have done a fabulous job!

finished another square last night!

Torii has begun seaming, but it's not too late to get in your square!

Seaming! W00t!

We've got the makings of a blanket! Thanks, everyone, for answering the call so quickly. Once Suzette's squares arrive on Tuesday, we'll be all set for blanketdom!

Started the seaming last night - I'm starting by making horizontal strips, if that makes sense. We'll seam in one direction first, and then attach the strips together. That way, there is still a little wiggle room as far as placement, and things won't get too unwieldy.

Meg has pictures. : )

ETA: If you are already working on a square, keep going! We can just make the blanket that much longer! Wheee!

We Can Haz Yarnz?

There's almost a full skein of white (Chalk, 9700)
Ballet Pink (9710) almost a full skein.
Raspberry Coulis (9717) 1.75 skeins.
Rosebud(9723) I'm working on a square with this one and there's more than a full skein left-over.
Dried Plum (9780) Only enough yarn for a little color work.

THen we have what I think is Berry Mix and Nosegay mix. Small quantities of each if somebody wants to make a little log cabin square.

It Is Crunch Time!

This blanket project needs your help!! We NEED 9 more squares to make a blanket. Preferably in lightest pink, and the reds (have a look at the photo two posts down if you need a visual). I'm sewing some of the squares together starting Saturday, but if we want this to be a lap blanket and not a toe warmer, we'll need some more pieces.

I'll make another in the medium red colour, so that's 1 down, 8 to go. Who else?

Left Overs?

Does anyone have left overs of Comfort? I can make some more squares.

Updated Squares!

Here are the squares we have so far. It needs one or two more rows, don't you all think? What about colour, what do you think? So far, so beautiful!

Also, I want to make a note that weaving in ends isn't necessary - we can use them to sew the squares together, actually!

Weeee!

I finally made a square yesterday, and it is safely in the hands of Torii. I was in a rush so I don't have a picture, but imagine Mimi's Be My Dishcloth in an off-red. (It may be hard to tell from that shade card, but it really does look okay with the other colors!)

Plenty of yarn leftover, so someone let me know if more are needed or I can contribute some other project to the mission! :)

Squares So Far

Here is what we've got to date. The colour's a bit dark in this photo, but you all get the general idea.

Pics of my squares

The light pink is in double seed stitch...great texture!
The mixed pink had a cool triangle pattern which is tricky to see in the pic with the varigated colors, but it's neat in person. Even in person it is a little subtle design due to the varigation.

Squares Collected

Torii collected some squares last night, but the sewing won't begin until we have a better idea how many colors there will be. So maybe if your square isn't done, or isn't turned in yet, could you post a picture here so she can see?

We've had a volunteer for crochet edging, she'll have to speak up and let Michelle (MyDailyFiber) know which one is selected. Or we could pick a few and vote on them, with the crocheter having veto power (cause some of those borders are a pain/eat yarn super fast)

I've gotten enough colors to do a log cabin. However, if anyone is using the mixed pinks, I'd love to throw in a little of that. But we have it at the store, so I could buy a ball and do a whole square in it, if nobody used it yet.

Hugs,
Renee

Log Cabin Square Help

Debbie really loves the log cabin blankets that have been turned out so far. I was thinking that in addition to my regular square I'd throw a little log cabin into the mix. And this is where I need your help. Could I collect your scraps from your squares?

Thanks
Renee

Love to Hate Berroco Comfort!

Jeez Louise!

It's so pretty and soft knitted, but I've never used anything so splitty in all my live-long days. The only thing worser than knitting with it is un-knitting with it!

Rant over! Carry on.
Like I said, it is soft and pretty.

Need Yarn

Will anyone be out at ASH that could pick me up a skein of Comfort and bring it to the Hollywood Diva's on Wednesday night?

Holly

Don't hate. . .

but it's 8 X 8, after multiple discussions where we mostly reminisced about Beth's blanket and how 12 X 12 seemed too big and nobody wanted to go down the 12 X 12 road again.

New Square Size

Is the change to 8" x 8" squares official now? I charted that size tonight, and I think I can actually do it in Fair Isle, for the smaller size. I'm going to Tropical Yarns tomorrow for the white yarn, so the chances are I'll start knitting on it tomorrow, so I'm checking to be sure about the size!

The Basket

I have a basket, and I've made a tag/card for it. I'll be at the Bean around 7 and we can put everything together then. The socks didn't work out, so I made a washcloth. The socks will be for later.

Help With Socks

I suck at making socks! Holes, everywhere! Help?

Yarn Search Saturday

Is everyone available to meet at ASH tomorrow morning? How about 11:00 a.m.?
Anyone who cannot make the trek but wants yarn, let us/me know what colour.

sorting out the blankie

OK, so it looks like from the comments:
the blanket will be 12 X 12 squares
using Berocco Comfort
Pinks, Purples,???

I think it's going to be lovely!

cloth campaign

OK, so I loved Stdebb's idea about the cloth basket with nice soaps. Michaels used to sell some pretty glycerin soaps with pink ribbons in it. I will contribute a pink & white ballband cloth! (Thanks for the great idea Cheryl!)

Bibo Birthday

Just to let everyone know that Debbie's birthday is on Sunday, June 8th and as far as I know, her only plans are to have dinner with her husband. I am going to be in Key Largo (my sister and her fam are vacationing there this weekend so I'm spending Sunday hanging out with them and then staying over Zettie's) but I'm thinking maybe some of The Betties could do something in the afternoon with her? I keep remembering the Spa Day you guys were planning but I know it's too short notice to do that for this Sunday.

Anyway, just thought I'd put her birthday out there. :)
This info is what Bibo posted about what she likes for the anniversary swap! Figured we can use that to help plan.

Colors - greens, blues, black, gray, brown, pink, pink too,

I would use a hat, scarf, gloves, fingerless mitts, socks, shawl/wrap, a bag, or container.

I like lace, i like cables, im pretty easy.

Novelty items, i love fun things, i know thats not specific, but as i said above, im pretty easy and open!

Ronnie's Suggestion

Ronnie (here at the library with me!) has suggested we make a log cabin out of Comfort yarn in shades of pink and purple. I told her I would post her idea!
