Ronnie (here at the library with me!) has suggested we make a log cabin out of Comfort yarn in shades of pink and purple. I told her I would post her idea!
I like both ideas- I agree about it being tricky to do a hand off at knitting, but I don't think it's impossible, either. I love how the log cabins look.
On the other hand, squares are good because everyone can do 1 in a week and it's done except the joining. It would be much quicker.
This is a good idea. It can get chilly in the hospital when you're getting chemo, so it'd be nice if she had something to snuggle under. And if it's something that shows her friends are behind her, so much the better.
What yarn? Something softer than Red Heart, I think. < g >
Let me know if I need to be making a square or buying yarn and waiting for my turn at a log cabin. (If we wanted to do that, all we need is an opaque bag. So many log cabins are being passed around, I doubt anybody would notice there's another one.)
But as Suzette said, we could all do our squares at once and have it done that much faster, so I'm easy, either way!
I really like the idea of doing squares, because it will be done a lot faster. Plus, everyone can choose their own pattern, and the blanket will end up with a little bit of each of us in it. I would be happy to do some of the sewing...maybe a few of us can get together and have a sewing party!
Oh, and I vote for Comfort. It rocks, in all ways that yarn can possibly rock. And it appears to come in a variety of appropriate colors.
come to think about it, I like the squares idea better than the log cabin. stitchers haven doesn't have a big variety of pink / purple shades, but we each can pick a ball of comfort at any yarn store and make a 12x12 square of our choice. a sewing party would be awesome and we can do this at no time.
I have done squares before for a gift quilt in crochet and it was so fast and was beautiful, that's why I thought it would be good to do the squares. It would be nice to give her something soon as she begins her journey through all of this. 12 x 12 sounds very nice!

WOO HOO! best.idea.ever.
Maybe it would be nice to do squares because the hand-off for a log cabin may not be so easy to keep secret at the bean every Monday.
Maybe like this www.knitwits-heaven.com/breast_cancer_awarenesst.htm Pink Ribbon Washcloth , and maybe in shades of red, pinks, purples, white, cream.
Great ideas MDF!

I bought this log cabin pattern awhile back if you guys are interested in using it.
:)
I like Suzette's idea about the squares probably being faster. We could probably have it done for the anniversary party or earlier.

Oh, DUH! I just saw that the original suggestion included yarn choice. I need to slow down and read more carefully, for sure!
The nice thing about Comfort is that it is affordable, nice, and easy to find. I know the Stitcher's Haven has it for sure.
Either way is great for me...or both.
I love how comfort feels. It would take my vote!
I like the idea of the reverse images in the squares, even if they aren't all breast cancer ribbons link I have up there, it could look like a quilt.
I think Mimi should do a ballband style in pink n white.

Here's three really cute ones.
:) It sure needs to be a special blanket.
I have a skein of Comfort variegated in purple, and also a skein of Iron Horse (?) in purple purple.
